American Idol: why aren't these talentless losers forced to start out as garage bands and earn respect?

This is the worst show on the planet. Respect and audiences needs to be earned!!! They need to start out as garage bands, play locally, then move up to bigger and better places. These talentless twits are nothing more than karaoke specialists. they couldn't write a sentence let alone an entire song. big deal. they sing one song and are out of breath. half of them wouldn't know the words to "happy birthday" if it weren't on a teleprompter in front of them.
